The Mr Can You Host Me for One Week?

Let me tell you another story.

Recently, one of my friends and I were on the phone for about 20 minutes. What he told me is the perfect example of a notorious time vampire.

What is a time vampire?
We talked about it in a past email, but it won't harm repeating.
Time vampires are people who will use, abuse, and take your time. They suck you dry of your most precious resources.

This guy knocked on my friend's door out of nowhere, without notice, and ended up staying in his house alone while my friend had left the city for other activities.

The meat of the story is that this Mr Can You Host Me for One Week came from another town. He claimed he had found a job in Nairobi and needed a place to stay before getting stable. On top of that, he gave his sob story about how his wife had died and how he was going through a rough time in life.

My friend, being the generous king he is, let the guy stay in his sanctuary. A house with food, internet, and a sweet brown-skinned neighbor. Then my friend left the city for a few weeks while this guy stayed, enjoying free life.

In the days that followed, this guy offered to help my friend with some tasks for his company. So my good friend thought it wasn’t a bad deal after all, since he knew him from high school.

But as the days passed, my friend noticed some funny stuff.

First, Mr Can You Host Me for One Week started wearing my friend’s clothes from head to toe. He wiped his body with his towel. He took money from the company to finance his movements, even after refusing to show up for the tasks he was asked to do.

He spent his entire day indoors. And it became clear that Mr Can You Host Me for One Week had never even found a job in the first place. He had exhausted the food and didn’t buy anything to replace it. By the time my friend returned to the city, the house was dry and empty.

His private lockers had been opened. Documents perused.
The sink was dirty and filled with unwashed utensils.
The workstation was a mess.
The bed was torn apart.

Mr Can You Host Me for One Week left without telling my friend.

When my friend came back, the door was locked. The gate leading to his house was open, and the gate key had been thrown inside the house through the window. When my friend called him, the guy didn’t pick up.

That was the end. No explanation. No word on where he went. No update on his progress. Just gone. And now they are not even talking. My friend’s generosity had been taken advantage of.

My diagnosis is that Mr Can You Host Me for One Week has not yet been initiated into the way of men. He carries too much chaos in his life.

The guy looks like someone who doesn’t know how to write.

But do you know the real definition of this guy?

In my biased but accurate opinion, he is a time vampire. He knows how to use other people’s time and resources. Now my friend will have spend more time getting his house back in order and already wasted his time while away from the city talking to someone who was never real from the go!

To avoid learning it the hard way like my friend, you’re better off ignoring this type of time vampire.

Kill them the moment they step into your door, and you’ll keep your time and hard-earned resources to yourself.

THE END
