RESENDING: The most valuable skill in the world.

I am here remembering the activities of yesterday as I train my mind back to clarity so that I can send you this letter which for the first time in a long time I am writing in the evening.

My birthday was last week.

I had a lot of reflections and mbwembwe. The height of it was yesterday when I walked for 12 km, spent one and half hours in the gym and finished the day with a hangout over whiskey and beef at home with my esteemed brothers Lisili Imbova and Bishop. You know it, just 3 Luhya men chatting and laughing and plotting freedom.

It is also about 3 weeks after I quit my position at a marketing agency so that I could dedicate more time on my work and my new writing and digital marketing business. I decided to take my advice and quit the ratrace.

Anyway, as we begin, the skill I am going to talk about is marketing.

I believe marketing is the most valuable skill in the world. I hold this statement as true. As believable. Marketing increases the impact of your work. Had it not been for marketing, you would not be seeing and reading this email.

A few years years ago, not long after covid, I came to the realization that I loved and enjoyed writing and would be doing it for life. I really don’t see a time coming in my life where I will not be writing.

Anyway. After this realization, I did not care to get noticed.

I did not enroll for an English degree.

I did not enroll in a writing school.

I started practicing writing in different styles. (read about freewriting here)

I simply wrote by hand or typed nearly every single day.

I also practiced daily JOURNALLING but fell off after like a year and a half.

Adding marketing to my writing skill changed my life trajectory which I am already enjoying while I send you this letter right now!

Most people who are unstoppable in business, career, relationships and life enjoyment are great at marketing themselves. I see marketing as a universal skill. Many people still see it as university degree or a career profession. When in simple terms it is just the art and science of showing people your value in terms of products, services, ideas and message. In turn people pay you for that.

Ignoring marketing is surely going to make our lives much harder than they should be. The good thing is that you don’t need marketing so you can become a professional marketer. You don’t need marketing so you can get a marketing job.

You need it because it can increase people’s trust in you and your business. And increase the impact of your work. This is something you’d love and work for if you are here reading this.

Loyal Nick’s letters reader and subscriber Lynn Thoya Mgiryama who is a health and fitness expert has a marketing function for her online business.

I can see how she is leveraging digital marketing strategies like social media and blogging to increase the impact of her work and grow her business. I don’t wish to become female, but I can tell her you go girl!

Anyway. One way that marketing changed my writing was when I started this newsletter. Now guess what? Sending emails is a marketing strategy to any work or business you may have. Make no mistake about that. To this day, I have messed around and discovered how I can share my message, connect with you and sell you my offers and services.( check out the PS)

You too can apply marketing to your life in whatever field you are and see yourself play on a whole different life level.

You don’t have to become a writer. You certainly do not have to send emais every week.

You could maybe start with social media. Or create a podcast. Or start a Youtube channel.

Wherever you are and whatever you want, it is never late to start marketing.

There is a lot of teachers and coaches out there.

A lot of resources too.

Some of which are free of charge. You can learn whatever topic and apply in your life and biz as you go. Good luck.
