Planting Trees on Earth or Planting Ideas in Your Head?
If you don’t step up and look at things clearly, you are going to remain in oppression forever.
There was a Swahili fictional play we used to read back in high school. The name of the play was Mstahiki Mayor.
Mstahiki is a Swahili word which in English translates to something like appropriate or chosen.
The whole play was about politics, leadership, and governance of a certain town.
At one point the town affairs were in complete chaos. From workers’ protests to ideological differences in the leadership board to dirty and stinking streets.
The office of the mayor became so hot from all these. The mayor then had to do something to get things in order.
Guess what the mayor did?
Mstahiki mayor went ahead and declared a holiday. The goal of this holiday as per the mayor was to have people relax.
Turns out that basically the people we being tricked into relaxing from their daily troubles and suffering. And this move somehow controlled the situation but it was only for a moment.
I won’t go much into the high school play before I start writing things which I don’t know because really, I left there so many years ago.
What I am going to do is this…Tell you about a real-life situation in Our country Kenya.
You are fully aware that today in Kenya, the government declared a holiday for planting trees. This comes in the midst of hard economic times for many. But as you know the people of our great country of Kenya, they are not going to be planting trees. They are instead going to stay indoors and indulge in bad habits and maybe later go out for more bad habits. People who normally dread Mondays are having their best moments today and some might even call it work-life balance. Just the same way many Kenyans are complaining of hard economic times with little pay and more taxes, they have been rewarded with a 3 day weekend to ease the stress. That is the same thing the same way the Mstahiki mayor did it in the play. Country people will now happily relax in bad habits instead of going out to plant trees or even genuinely rest and try something creative outside of work.
The truth is the Mondays that people dread are not going away.
The Work-life balance that they want is never going to come.
The taxes and hard economic times are never going to end. As a matter of fact, things are actually going to get worse.
You might ask yourself. Why are people never waking up to these matrix tricks?
And the answer is simple. People simply don’t think. They lack the courage to question things from their own welfare to the external world around them. They live in comfort zones while in fear that things are going out of control. Well, they are right because hell yess…Things are out of control.
Which brings me to the call for today… You see fear is a tool It is a tool used by public servants, marketers, and organizations to control the population. Fear is always working in your life. If you don’t step up and look at things clearly, you are going to remain in oppression forever.
