You need digital marketing in your life!

Digital marketing is the most powerful skill right now. Many people are adding it to their lives, and main careers. Some are even making a complete switchover from what they do to become digital marketers. Even business owners consider getting professional help from marketers to help their businesses grow.

I am not about to tell you to become a professional digital marketer. Becoming a professional marketer is a personal choice. Anyway. Last week at a Nairobi city marketers meet-up in Kileleshwa, I met and talked to new and interesting people.

In the event, I noticed that some people were not originally marketers.

A hot black lady for example told me her story. 

She did a human resource course and graduated.

She tried looking for jobs.

She found digital marketing and decided to pursue it through self-education and community.

And then there was dude. A software engineer who is breaking into the marketing world by offering digital marketing services in web design and development.

The thing is this, my friend. Marketing is more a skill than it is a career as many people think. You need marketing in your life. It does not matter if you want to do it professionally or personally. It can complement some of your skills and career and increase your income.

On a personal note, I have a background in economics with experience in hospitality but have settled in marketing. I like looking at marketing as a green skill that you can do not just as a career but as a way of life. I see myself doing marketing even outside of a job or a service to clients.

For example, if you are creating in the digital space like myself, you must learn how to market and promote yourself.

If you own a business, you need to get more visibility and do promotions.

If you are a business consultant (accounting, biz management, marketing, team building, etc,) you need a system of acquiring clients and promoting yourself.

If you are working a corporate job you don’t like, you need marketing skills to grow a side hustle.

If you are a community manager, you need to know how to talk to people clearly and concisely.

I could go on with more examples. But by now, I hope you see how important and powerful marketing is. And everyone needs marketing. Those who can become professionals can help others. At the minimum level, everyone has to know the basics and principles of marketing because it is one of those skills that holds society together. We need to become better at communicating and helping people with value. Can you see it?

We are already seeing people interested in digital marketing even without themselves knowing it. These days people broadcast themselves on social media and WhatsApp messenger. Deep within them, they want to channel and communicate something to someone. They wish someone could see it and give them a reaction. They are low-key marketers because that is marketing.

And so do not be left behind by being a boring person who does not know how to communicate. Equip yourself with some basic digital marketing and it will take you to a higher place. Whether you are a biz owner, a creator, a corporate employee, or a stay-at-home parent.
