Mindset And Self-improvement for Internet Marketers and Writers.

fear of self-improvement and mindset shift can arrest your development as an internet marketer.

To many people, including employed marketers and writers, Mondays have been found to be boring and sucking.

Perhaps because the world has conditioned us to use the weekends for resting and relaxing over bad habits. When we should be using the weekend for reflections and planning ahead. And to most, bad habits like smoking and drinking and meaningless sex and scrolling is how they relax..

Anyway. Let me tell you this.

There is absolutely no problem in enjoying a cigar or your favorite drink. There is no problem in going out to a party. I mean what's the problem with chilling out together with your ‘person ? I see many mindset messages on the internet warning us against bad habits and letting loose ourselves. And I am like, no. Being overly serious and focusing for long is not good for the mind. Sure, that may work. But I don’t consider that sustainable for the human soul.

It is the discipline part where many fail.

They overindulge like there is no tomorrow. So most people get up on Monday with mad hangovers. Most people are already looking forward to the weekend on Monday morning. And that is what may be the cause of boring Mondays for many. Because they are already disconnected from the present.

But tell you what?

You and I are different.

Different in this sense. That even though Mondays may suck, we embrace that boredom and keep going. We are not going to whine and cry. Instead, we are going to do the work required of us.

I had a boring morning too. I felt terrible for what was waiting for me. Sending you this letter. Putting in some focused work. Planning the week. Luckily, I have this habit of using a few minutes every night to plan my morning. So I always wake up knowing where to begin. It is super powerful and I urge you to try it night after night. After taking myself to the desk and looking at my journal, I saw what I had decided to start with. And then I started my day.

I started my day by reading an article about the world being a scum to the level that many people perceive any money marketing opportunity on the internet as a scum. I am a huge believer in online income and I have recently become interested in some new business model. The model is called affiliate marketing. I am getting ready to start an affiliate marketing business to employ my skills in writing. Yeasr ago, I used to think that affiliate marketing was a scum. But my mindset has grown past that. More about how the world is a scum and affiliate marketing will hopefully come in future letters.

Let us now get into today's letter.

Which is: Mindset and self-improvement for Internet Marketers And Writers.

Let’s go…

The biggest roadblock for most beginner digital marketers and internet writers as I have come to learn is this. Fear of self-improvement.

Let us say for example you land a job at a local company as a digital marketing manager or executive. But once you get in the job, you realize there is a lot of learning and upskilling needed. You meet software and tools that you are not accustomed to. You meet work protocols and procedures that are completely new to you. And most importantly you want to design your lifestyle to accommodate your new job so that you can deliver your best. You then find yourself and your growth stagnating. And this challenge makes many people give up.

But all the challenges you are going to face in your new job don’t really mean that you are not skilled enough and passionate about your career. Neither does that mean that you are not fit for the job. Because in reality, every other job out there normally offers some continuous training for new recruits.

As time goes by, you start finding difficulty in completing tasks and managing your time. On top of that, the boss simply becomes a pain in the ass and decides to leave everything up to you to run the entire department. Communication becomes a problem. You barely sit for meetings to discuss the progress of your company. You get lost in repetitive tasks that no longer challenge your creativity. Challenges just won’t stop pilling.

And don’t get me wrong. I am not saying that you are entitled to accountability from your bosses, even though that can be great. You are entitled only to your own development for the good of yourself and to a large extent the company. What I am saying is that despite the progress of your company, you still need to keep up with your own progress. Progress in terms of social skills, management skills, your own mental wellness, and financial improvement too.

Your self-improvement is 100 percent your responsibility and not your boss’. Of course, your boss may do something towards your growth and development. And that is nice of them but it all falls back on you to upskill and become the best version of yourself, mentally, physically, emotionally, spiritually, and financially.

It happened to me a few months ago.

I was months into my new marketing job and something crazy happened. My mind went into mad disorder and I couldn't keep up with the piling work. Creating marketing plans for a new client. Designing a website for another client. Creating content for another client. Making graphics. Writing a report for a campaign for another client. Coordinating photoshoots and video shoots for a new client. All these tasks were totally new to me… I had to teach myself first how to do most of these tasks. My friend, keep in mind that this is not a complaint because I was able to get myself out of that rut.

How Did I do it?

I noticed that I had been giving a lot of time and attention to my job while forgetting my own well-being. I went days without doing any daily reflections. I neglected to put effort into my side hustle. I got into the comfort zone of knowing that I was always going to be paid at the end of the month no matter what. So to get myself out of that, I structured my days in a way that allowed me to put myself first before my job. Not in a bad way but… everyday I could wake up and dedicate just about one hour to my personal stuff before beginning office work. I am lucky I never have to commute to work so it works well for me. Every evening, I started dedicating some time for personal reflection. I also decided to enroll in a new course to upskill my understanding of digital marketing. I started investing part of my monthly check to buy some books to increase my knowledge. I started going out for tea and snacks and drinks with some of my boys to ease the boredom of sitting at home all week on the laptop. I started arranging calls with my boss to discuss some relevant stuff about the progress of ‘our’ company. And I see it has now compounded to me building my own personal brand on Twitter and this blog too. While at the same time keeping up with my tasks at work.

I am now discovering that self-improvement is at the core of every human. Everyone needs to put in work toward the growth of their own self. Everyone must become responsible for their own good before they get any assistance. Whether you are employed or an entrepreneur, self-development is the secret recipe to your life enjoyment. Don’t neglect your life and get lost in the life of others.

Let me use my marketing career as an example.

From the skills that I am acquiring( Content strategy, writing, communication, web & graphic design, etc.) I am in a position to see the needs and demands of these skills in the market. I know and believe and have even tried it. I can sell any of these skills anytime. These are evergreen skills that many business owners and brands are going to be happy to pay someone who is well-skilled and experienced to do them. I am able to prospect any potential client and offer my service at a fee. This can help me improve my bank. However, I am at the point in my career where I am not looking for clients out of work. Because I am interested in giving my best at work to test those skills. On top of that, I have my own personal brand I am building around those skills and my interests. And I have noticed that my self-improvement recipe is actually writing and journalling every day because as I may have told you already, writing is the best skill you can learn in this internet age. To me writing is how I check myself. I don’t even see myself looking for gigs out of my work that don’t relate to writing. I honestly don’t think I am going to be helping people manage their social media campaigns and things like SEO. Well, I am able to do that. But if the work relates to writing and strategic thinking, branding I’ll be happy and open to that…Anything outside that is me bending myself outside my strengths

What things can you do for your self-improvement?

Begin doing some exercise every week or daily. Over and over again, physical fitness has been found to promote mental health and wellness. Keep a journal for daily reflections and plans. Take breaks during work. Connect with nature. Call a friend and talk regularly. Go out. Improve your diet by avoiding a lot of junk. And most importantly, take control of your mind. Refuse to be among the masses who are mentally manipulated by things like sports, news, and religion. I am not saying that sports, news, and religion are bad, but just avoid the chaos and noise that mostly comes with them. You are better off with peace and stillness.

And now finally…

Writing is the best self-improvement practice for digital marketers. I’m proud to declare this. You don’t need therapy or coaching my friend. Writing can help you to observe your mistakes, flaws, and life progress.

Careerwise, writing is the base of marketing. Writing is how people communicate. Writing has been found to improve your speech and eloquence. If you are in this powerful career of marketing, I challenge you to consider majoring in writing.

In your own personal life, writing is going to help you document your life. Writing is going to strengthen your mind. While falling in love may weaken your legs, not writing weakens your mind. Side joke haha…

Now. I believe a strong mind is essential for the success of anyone. Because as cliche, as they say, everything begins in your mind. And writing is one of the underrated ways to strengthen your mind. Because if you let mental laziness and fogginess creep up with you, you are going to block yourself from a passionate marketing career. And life enjoyment will remain a fantasy. At least in marketing.

Tell a friend. Have any ideas? Reply. Keep well. Until next week.
