How to Study Your Mental Life.

Lift yourself out of society's rotten systems and fools...

The number one problem facing the entire human race is a problem hidden from us. It is a problem affecting everyone of us without much of our knowledge.

This is the problem that we want to uncover and begin to tackle in this week's newsletter.

And so as we move forward, I do not expect many to read my letters because they are naturally for those few who desire freedom from society and are ready to go for it.

Anyway, before we identify the problem, let me tell you this: I recently started reading a foundational text on psychology and philosophy. Then I decided it would be a good book to rely upon the insights for works to come. The name of the book is called Principles of Psychology, and it’s written by Willian James.

How can you study your mental life?

A good question before answering this question would be why? Why should you study your mental life?

It is because historical examples and countless present examples confirm that the mind is the single most powerful tool we have to unlock a society of higher men and women.

Right now, we have already established the existence of world systems and corporations focused on simply making your mental life chaotic and sick.

And so the reason to study your mental life is for your own good. It can lift you from the rot of society and it’s fools who don't study their minds.

There are about five big ideas in this wildly large book by William James that individually needs more deep exploration to help us study our mental lives.

And they are these:

  1. Habits: What role do the things we do everyday play in shaping our behavior?

  2. Consciousness: Analyzing your thoughts and how they come to you.

  3. Emotions: Where do your emotions come from?

  4. Attention: The lessons of staying focused and how it ties to our mental power.

  5. Will: How we make decisions.

If you are like me, despite your life experience, you can read signs of sickness in society. You have probably suffered some society sickness before or you may even be sick right now.

Due to the amount of power vested in the world systems and corporations, it is true that the human mind is under direct attack to keep us from raising our work and influence in the world.

With these big ideas from William James’s book, the way to move forward is by studying your mental life. How? By doing the following 5 things:

  1. Look at your daily actions and how they are shaping your behavior.

  2. Take time to listen to your thoughts and investigate where they come from.

  3. Understand how your feelings work and their source.

  4. Train your mind to focus on what is at hand in the present.

  5. Learn how to take decisive actions.

This is my understanding as of now and I look forward to digging deeper as we continue thriving together.

What will follow next is longer letters styled like articles to help us study our minds so that we can make better decisions and live a much higher and fuller life. I think I should call them something like: how to lift yourself out of society’s rot and fools.

Tell me your thoughts by replying to this email. Sincerely, these letters will be richer with your thoughts so do not hesitate to send them.

Until next week.

-Nick.
