Freedom Has No Office Hours.

A while ago I was chatting with a birdie who is an event organizer in hot spots of the Westlands area in Nairobi city.

I have these habit of interrogating girls whenever I chill with them for some fairly long time like 30 minutes. It’s just casual conversation, but I’m always fishing for deeper truth especially about money, freedom, and how people are really living. And I have a strong feeling that girls are freeing themselves up at crazy rates. Not to say that boys are sleeping. What I am saying is that the ultimate freedom in life is being able to make sustainable and life sustaining money outside of employment. And that is exactly what this girl does, At least, if her words were true.

I have already said it before that the corporate system is one of the hinderances to a life of freedom and if you can thrive outside of it and bring home 10, 20, 30, 40 thousands month by month, you are living the life. A very difficult break for many.

“I saw your biz on Instagram. Good work. “

She said thank you and kept talking.

She opened up and spoke a lot after I told her face to face that she was a free girl. And what I remember most was that she quit her job in finance and started organizing events. Her customers are girls who paint just like herself.

And these days, weekend after weekend, after enduring a difficult one and a half years in business, she is always booked.

I never really counted her money. But I studied her hustle. The offers. The content. The positioning. The communication and branding on her Instagram.

Right now I see how easily she is making more than the average finance female who is even working in a glass office in Westlands. And most importantly, she is having nobody to report to except herself and her guests. And also meeting interesting guys like me! Because she deserves the best!

A bit of an unusual example to use here but this is what we are talking about when we say freedom. To me, freedom on a very high level is about two things. Mental freedom and financial freedom. We have talked about mental freedom in past letters and today we have seen a real life example of local and realistic financial freedom.

Of course, I might be biased in my take. Especially considering that the lady and I spoke only about an hour before I wrote this email.

Maybe I might see things differently in future. But since I quit working in a marketing agency and decided to build my own skill-based business, my pipeline of prospective clients is filled with leads from places like the marketing society of Kenya. Most recently, I sold my writing work to people in higher places of Nairobi business communities. That is why I am certain freedom lies outside a monthly salary, however big that salary may!
