Educated But Dumb.

A while ago a Nicks letter subscriber was telling me about a fresh from university intern in his work department who borrowed his laptop to use overnight. After the laptop was given, that intern went home and asked to be reminded the password in text.

Subscriber sent the password and never got a response even after the laptop was given out and left for extra days.

A short part of a big story but here is some reflection upon it.

When you reflect upon this, you notice that there is a deep sense of entitlement among many people. 

And that entitlement to me I feel is because most people have a torn mind that does not think and know how to act with people. Because really, what is the problem with replying thank you when someone accepts to help you?

A phenomenon we see in society today is an increased influx of people in universities especially in the social sciences and humanities. But when they leave, all they can show is a degree and some grades. That’s it. No growth in how to carry themselves. No maturity in how to relate with others.

This is sickness even if you say I am biased.

And this sickness can best be cured with the ability to think. Because as you know it, universities do not teach people how to think.

So today, I encourage you to practice writing. Writing even if not for the money like I do sometimes, will improve your automatic thinking which, as Jordan Peterson taught, helps you act effectively in the world.

So do not be like this sick intern.

Start writing, make that decision as soon as possible.
