The Cause of Human Frustrations and Unhappiness and How to Fix It.
there is no happiness in society
Happy Monday fam.
As promised in the last letter, today we are starting on the topic of self-development. You might have encountered the word self-development when you first read a motivational book. Or when you started your wellness journey. But that does not matter much, so here is some idea that you need to consider.
You see, a lot of self-development works out there always point to 3 things.
How to fix your habits.
How to know yourself and the ways of the world.
How to influence people, make more money, and be happy with your life.
And let me tell you something, reading a lot of self-development books is never going to give you these three rewards. Instead, you are going to find yourself in a loop of motivational cycle. Moving from the monk who sold his Ferrari to the millionaire next door to the daily stoic and so on and so on without making real improvements in your life.
And please don’t get me wrong. It is okay to grab one of such books in your life. But after a year or two you need to be done with them and begin reading rather some real philosophy and psychology and fiction. My go-to book at the beginning of my self-improvement was The Subtle Art by Mark Manson. And it shifted my world forever. I have since lost interest in any other self-help books and I focus purely on reading deep philosophy and psychology and literature and science and economics.
Because guess what?
If you keep on reading more and more self-help books, you are likely going to be like the many people out there who fetishize motivation without actions. And that surely is a recipe for disaster and frustration.
Separate yourself from the masses by acting more on ideas than just reading and accepting them. Because when you apply those ideas, that is how you become wiser.
It is common to meet people who just keep learning about ideas and accepting them without testing them. These are people that are living in fear. And fear as you should know it, is the source of frustrations and unhappiness.
The great late Earl Nightingale used to teach about the power of overcoming your fears and working on yourself to achieve personal happiness. Earl Nightingale was an American radio host, author, and speaker. He emphasized the importance of going against popular culture and acting with thought and intention. In his recording called The Strangest Secret, Earl Nightingale taught that people simply don’t think. Look around yourself and you are going to notice that. They would rather live in the comfort of their ideas and life instead of going out of societal norms and building up their dream life. Because trust me, my friend, there is no happiness in society. In other words, people live in fear of personal development. People fear starting a fitness journey. They fear starting a business. They fear becoming vulnerable and open to love. Fear is a normal thing in society.
Which brings me to the call of the day. I have written a detailed and story-filled article talking more about that. Head over there now by clicking this link to read it.
Until next week.
