My back story: On marketing
let us get rich together.
Last week I was meeting with a prospective client who invited me for a chat on marketing his book publishing business. We met and he even introduced me to some of his colleagues at Comrades bookhouse.
Njuki had been asking me how I ended up in marketing. I told him briefly.
And I figured out that could be an email to you so that you can get to know me a little bit more.
And so….
Let me tell you my back story.
Back in November of 2022, I entered the corporate world of digital marketing and communications in a beginner role as a digital marketing specialist.
Long before that, I was a continuing student of economics working on the side at one of the finest fast food restaurants in Nairobi.
I worked 3 years in hospitality sales waiting on tables.
At Artcaffe, I talked and met and sold and served hundreds of thousands of people from different walks of life around the world.
But during COVID lockdown, I decided to take up a different challenge because waiting on tables did not seem to promise me the freedom I wanted.
So I made the hard decision. I quit the job even with a better contract and a confirmed promotion on the table.
I left with my eyes set on the freelance and online business world. I started self-educating on the fundamentals of digital marketing.
After years of starting and failing at multiple businesses, the chance presented itself to work for a promising woman-owned marketing startup as a digital specialist.
I said “fvck why not?” I took it.
I saw the golden opportunity to start building my foundation in marketing and advertising.
As you may know it, I left the job last month to dedicate more time for my new digital marketing and writing biz.
To this day, I am glad to declare that marketing and advertising is my area of focus moving forward.
And that is pretty much about my marketing back story.
In less than 2 years, I have worked with fashion, food, fitness and wellness brands. I understand marketing principles and foundations and how to apply them to different fields.
One thing I have learned is that many biz owners and creators are clueless about how marketing works. Some do not even know the tremendous power of marketing as a function of business.
I mean, they even don’t know that they need marketing.
I write blogs and emails to help you become more conscious about marketing. That is why I am available to help such people add and improve marketing in their business.
You could be a fitness coach or a book publisher.
You could be a construction company owner or a wine seller.
You could be a CEO or a project coordinator.
You could be a DJ or a poet.
Whatever industry you are in, marketing is literally a hidden savior. And don’t make the mistake of thinking that you can do it alone and on your own. Because guess what? Even marketers still need and pay other marketers at some point.
