6 Philosophical Concepts That Explain Modern World.

it's not as we think!

This letter which I started writing by hand on a calm and sunny Sunday mid-morning after an omelette breakfast is going to give you some deep concepts that can largely help you find explanations to major occurrences in the world.

In other words, this is the letter with philosophical concepts that explain modern world.

Many of us out here think that worldly things just tend to happen from the blues or are just as they seem to appear. I want to tell you in this letter this evening that it's not as we think!

I have encountered a lot of philosophy to the point that to me, philosophizing is an almost daily thing. By philosophizing, I simply mean this: asking questions and investigating society in social, political and economic spheres.

It all started in childhood when according to what my caregivers have told me, I always seemed to question (and even interrogate) the things happening around me. And I thinks this is a common thing to many of us, even if you observe some babies.

Esteemed Nick's letters reader and subscriber, DJ and entrepreneur Shivachi Shihembekho, also holds philosophy on high regard. Not forgetting non-profit CEO Wangoi Maina who screamed(wuuu!) when I introduced myself to a small audience at Alliance Friancias ( I hope I typed it right) as a philosopher. She too, as I believe values philosophy!

Definitely, philosophy is a subject worthy of study.

I'd like to think that philosophy is a key subject that needs to be brought to more people outside of the normal university education where most philosophy lovers tend to meet it for the first time.

Anyway, take the recently concluded US election for example. The results are not a shock to me. Actually, if you have studied books that explain politics from a principle standpoint, you may easily see why Trump won. But that is not a hole I want to dig here.

Here, and right now while I type from my Sunday notes and scrapbook, we are going to look at principles, rules and laws that explain the world. There are surely a lot out there regarding discussions like this. And I am certainly not the inventor of the ideas that I am about to present to you. They are all lessons sieved from old books by philosophy curator and researcher Jash Dholani.

We are only going to look at 6 out of the 10 on his list.

These 6 I believe are relevant to you, sexy and liberated Nick's letters reader a d subscriber.

Let us begin.

The Tacitus Razor.

Do you want to know who is controlling you?

Look in society who you are not allowed to critisize. It's in the open now and it's not hard to tell who is controlling who!

The slavery syndrome.

This was a concept from a Roman historian by the name Sallusto. In his own words “few men desire liberty; most men wish only for a just master.”00

This is the ugly realty to those of us seeking happiness and life enjoyment by becoming free spirits. To me, it's like liberty was designed for a few people. Not everyone is gonna be free! Why? Because it requires people who can think. People who can make decisions and solve dilemmas with thier own mind and not AI. Liberty is a highly taxing activity especially to the mind. And so people would rather follow already established narratives and thus end up jeoparzing their freedom.

The Polybius warning.

In 2nd Century BC, there lived a historian named Polybuis. He had a warning to the world. According to this warning, a falling birthrate preceeds a civilisation collapse. When there is few children being born, it means that essentially men and women have given up and are more focused on unhealthy lifestyle and bad habits.

I am not disregarding your own choice of lifestyle, but I am certain Polybius was right. In fact, the Greek civilisation fell because of low birth rates coupled with laziness and bad habits.

The tyranny of laws.

Average citizens think that laws bring justice and order to society. The opposite is actually true. Whenever laws are made, more people are put under control of the rulers. And as you should know by now, rulers for governments are corrupt establishments interested only in their affairs, not those of the citizens.

The Juvenal principle.

“Give them bread and circuses and they never revolt.”

Said Roman poet Juvenal.

This guy believed that long periods of peace were indeed as evil as war itself. Many people today tend to find peace in food and instant gratification and distractions like news and social media.

Nobody wants to feel hunger and court their attention. Yet we know and even some of us here have tested it: if you stay without food for abnormal hours and train your attention to remain focused, magical things start to happen.

The Cassius Hypothesis.

Cassius was a historian who taught that while monarchy needed only one man to make the right decision, democracy needed more men and in most cases millions of men. Now I'm asking, between one man and one million men, who is going to succeed at making the right decision? It is no wonder the countries of the world ruled by Kings are more successful and richer than most democratic countries of Africa. I believe some if not all nations in the middle east don't hold general elections like we do here in Kenya and that explain the Arab superior wealth.

We stop here now!

That was about an hour of writing from the soul. And I hope I have brought some light in your life so that you can better understand what's going on in the world especially here in Mr Must Go’s regime.

These ideas may seem abstract but they have been tested over the centuries and often turn out to be true. If you dare investigate and apply them on world occurrences, you'll see how things are the way they are in the world today, and see maybe where humanity is headed.

I mean you may even notice why most African nations and families are living in poverty.

All in all, it's really up to you to interpret and apply. I believe you can do that if you have read up to here.

Let me know which idea you liked most by replying to this email.

Until next week.

P.S. This publication is going to slowly change. More will be coming on philosophy and self development and a little less on biz and marketing. But since marketing is my biz, I am still creating marketing content on my Substack. If you run a biz and want to receive marketing updates, go to here.
