2024 wrap up Reflections Final Part.
Reflections on Marketing And The Shift to Personal Development.
At the beginning of 2024, I decided to upgrade my skills and added five marketing certifications to my stack. Four were from Alison, but it was the one from American Writers And Artists Institute (AWAI) that truly transformed my year. That certification didn’t just enhance my skills—it opened doors, guiding me from a role as a digital marketing agency manager to becoming an independent freelance copywriter and marketer through resignation.

This is me in copywriter and marketer mode!
Copywriting, for those unfamiliar, is the art of crafting words that drive sales, marketing, and business development. Think of blogs, social media posts, articles, video scripts, emails, and more. Through AWAI’s resources—both free and paid—I learned not just the skills but the business side of marketing. That insight was pivotal because marketing is a skill that needs to be marketed itself! And most importantly, I am now in connection with top international marketers and look forward to more connections and yes, work to be paid in world currencies!
As the year started, my focus was on strategic marketing planning. But as I dug deeper into the world of copywriting, I discovered how to make it a key offering in my work. Actually, one of my recent work(this dec) involved rewriting a whole website for a guy I met On LinkedIn. A process which involved pure copywriting strategies.
One major thing to note and to remember for years to come in my marketing career is the power of market research.
Rory Sutherland, a brilliant British marketer, emphasizes understanding of your customers as the foundation of marketing success.
I tell this to every biz owner I meet in 2024!
I also discovered the "rule of the obvious"—avoiding over-rationalization and simply doing what needs to be done. This lesson came to me through a book called Obvious Adams. It is to me one of the essential books to learn and practice marketing. I see a lot of people in marketing overcomplicating content creation and strategies, yet there is always an obvious thing you can do to get going. This “rule of obvious” also applies to other businesses and areas of life.
These principles (investigating your customers and doing the obvious) guided me through multiple campaigns for small businesses in food, fashion, and wellness. Each project was a success, thanks to the fantastic teams I worked with and my commitment to direct-response marketing—actions that drive measurable results.
Anyway, this year made it clear: marketing isn’t just about selling. It’s about communication—conveying value to those who need it most. That’s why marketing overlaps with communication services in so many companies. It’s also why I see marketing as deeply tied to personal growth. The better you know how to communicate, the more people will understand your message, and the more you grow. I think there’s nothing to doubt about this statement! The more I market or learn about marketing, the more my individual value increases. My infinite knowledge in marketing and writing is now tapping me into clients who know my worth. Because the thing is this: as your marketing skills grow, you begin to attract people, opportunities, and success. I am not gonna lie, I am so positive of the times ahead.
As I move into 2025, this newsletter will shift focus. I think I have said this before but it does not harm to repeat. Nick’s letters will become a space dedicated to personal development. Why? Because personal development is at the core of humanity. Every one of us deserves to grow, thrive, and explore our infinite capabilities.
You’ll find insights on mindset, habits, and growth strategies fused with worldly stories to help you think differently both in life and business. Stay with me on this journey—it’s going to be worth it.
Talk soon,
Nick
